In 2015, DDP was the most tagged location in South Korea on Instagram. Dongdaemun can be a bit overwhelming that first time, so here’s a good place to start when you visit a shopper’s paradise that is Dongademun. SeouLight is a large scale light show that uses the 220 meter facade of the DDP as the canvas. The media façade festival is an annual event so if you’re here for it, definitely go see it! The show can be seen from all over but you’ll want to get up close so you can also have the music surround you as you’re enveloped by the lights.

The ruins have been incorporated into the park and include the arched floodgate Yigansumun. The Dongdaemun History Museum imaginatively displays the pick of the 575 artefacts from the site and provides historical background to the ancient foundations preserved outside. The Dongdaemun Stadium Memorial relives key moments from the stadium’s history and includes video clips. Much more than just a cool building though, Dongdaemun Design Plaza is an important social and cultural hub, with an ongoing series of compelling exhibitions, events, and shows to check out. The local fashion hub district and the residential area share the park at the center, which was previously separated by Jangchungdanro-ro.

If you are traveling to Seoul and you plan to visit various Kdrama filming locations, then head to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문디자인플라자) or DDP. It is the most iconic landmark of the Korean design industry in the city. Dongdaemun Design Plaza has staged diverse cultural events including exhibitions, fashion shows, product launch shows, forums, conferences and various cultural events. Firstly, the main building’s free-form surface is covered with more than 45,000 unique double curved aluminium sheet panels. The long and complex design, fabrication and installation process put considerable pressure on both the programme and budget.
